Babies & Motifs & Zebras

First off, the really important stuff - huge congratulations to Rich and Jaq on the birth of their firstborn (do people still use that term?). Little Hugo arrived last week and Rich and Jaq are as we speak enjoying their little bundle of joy. Heartfelt congratulations and love from the three other inhabitants of Epicoland. Matt, you're up next matey...

And on that subject, congratulations also to Craig, whose wife Lisa gave birth to twin girls last week as well. Big applause and much smoking of cigars (and other leaf-based products) from everyone in Epico headquarters Craig.....

Right, the other reason for this mail. Yep, rub your eyes, shake off the cobwebs and prepare for the news you thought you'd never hear.....Epico's debut album is finished. I've lost count of the amount of days/weeks/months it's taken, but am guessing it's on a par with the construction of the pyramids or the evolution of man from Homo neanderthalensis to Homo sapiens (give or take a few weeks). It's been a long process of recording, listening, trying, recording, editing, re-trying, re-recording, re-editing etc but has ultimately been unbelievably rewarding. Aside from the recording of the drums (done by the superb Greg Webster at Sunlight Studios in Gillingham) and the printing of the CD artwork, we have done everything ourselves from recording all the instruments and vocals to mixing and mastering the album to designing the CD artwork and actually producing the CDs and putting the whole thing together as a nice jewel-cased little package.

The album, comprising of 10 original tracks, is entitled 'Black Motif'. In the next few weeks it will be available to download from iTunes (UK, US, Japan and Australia) and Amazon but if, like us, you are not 'down with the kids' and are more old-school in your CD collecting, the actual hold-it-in-your-hands CD can be purchased directly from us. I say "purchased" as, unfortunately, we are yet to make our millions from this music lark and each album costs us money to produce, so we feel obliged to charge a small fee for it. Sorry about that. If you wish to purchase one simply drop us an e-mail and we'll be in touch pronto, or you can simply turn up at a gig where we will always have some on sale.

Talking of which, our recording duties now being over (for at least a few months) means we can start actually playing some or all of Black Motif to other people, and we'll be starting this with a gig on Wednesday July 2nd at the Zebra Bar in Maidstone, Kent where we also hope to be playing a track or two from our forthcoming 'difficult 2nd album'. But don't get me started on that...

Las felicitaciones en el nacimiento de su bebé.

Upping The Average

In a concerted effort to average more than 2 gigs a year, I'm pleased to announce that Epico will be playing The Oast House in Rainham (Kent) this Saturday night (12th January). Yup, we thought it best to actually start the year gigging and see how well we can continue that trend throughout 2008. I know - it's a radical approach to being in a band - but we're all about pushing the envelope…

Anyway, if you don't fancy staying in to watch whatever light entertainment pap is being shown on Saturday, then it would be great to see you at the Oast. We're on at 8.30 followed by two top class local bands so it promises to be an evening of high brow rock 'n roll type frivolities…

Here's a link to the Oast House website - http://oastclub.co.uk/

Other news - the album nears completion with every passing day. Aside from a couple of short guitar parts to record, the drums, bass and guitars are all finished for the 10 songs and the vocals will be recorded in the next few weeks. My initial completion date of Christmas was a bit hopeful, as was my second date of mid to late January. Still, my third estimation of the end of February will, as time will attest, be absolutely spot on. Or thereabouts, anyway...

Feliz año nuevo

An apology

I apologise - it's been way too long. I should be stripped and stretched and flogged before the village elders. Or maybe that's a bit drastic...

Anyway, it has been a while but we are back and here to announce a gig in a week or so at the esteemed Tunbridge Wells Forum and, even bigger news, our debut album is nearing completion. Yes, contrary to frantic speculation in the national and international music media, we have not been sitting idly around twiddling our knobs, we've been doing stuff.

The drum tracks are all done for 9 songs and along with copious amounts of guitar and bass tracks, the songs are coming on. We have a few guitary bits to add, plus of course the vocals and along with a planned acoustic song the album will comprise 10 songs. Some newer ones mixed in with some established songs, but all unmistakably Epico. We hope it will be ready by Christmas, but that may be a bit hopeful. If not it should be available for your aural pleasure sometime in January.

Anyhoo, would be great to see you at the Tunbridge Wells gig so if you fancy a Monday night of quality rock 'n roll then pop on down.

La paz, el amor y la comprensión.

Marathon Man

I was trying to come up with some hilariously clever joke about pulling teeth, but I've failed miserably. Anyway, if you have nothing planned for Saturday 21st July, then why not take a trip to The Game Cock (I know - I still snigger too) in West Kingsdown, Kent, to watch Magic perform his marathon man impression and play with both Epico and Surface all in one night. Yep, a Mark Johnson double header. We'll be on first, probably around 6pm or so, followed by Surface playing for the rest of the evening with their usual aplomb.

We'll be debuting some new songs which we're over-the-moonly chuffed with, so would be great to see you there.

Qué lo paséis bien.

Second Home

The Command House - it's like our second home (aside from the fact that we don't actually live there, or have any official correspondence such as utility bills etc sent there for us). Anyway, we're back playing there on Sunday 27th May as part of the bank holiday festivities at the 'House. Jay - soundman extraordinaire and the owner of the finest head of hair we've ever seen - will be on the desk as usual and there's a host of other bands playing so come down and say "hi".

Howdy

Just a quickie - a gentle reminder that we have the Command House gig coming up in less than 2 weeks and would love to see you there to play you our new material and to debut the 'all new' Epico (or something).

And, just as importantly, we finally have some new songs on our Music page. Three acoustic songs - Lilly's, accompanied by two new songs that are now firmly entrenched in our set; Remind Me Why I'm Here and Heartless Shutters. iTunes and Windows Media formats for you to download and enjoy...

Oh, and happy birthday to Ade today...man, he's getting old...

Hope to see you at the gig...
